HOW TO BREW: BREWING FUNDAMENTALS

It's easier than you think since there is no right or wrong way to make tea. Experiment and, most importantly, let your palate be your guide. If it's your first time brewing loose tea, here are some simple instructions to follow to ensure that your first cup is one you thoroughly enjoy.

What you will need:

  • Teaspoon of tea per cup
  • Hot water (check the tea’s ideal temp above)
  • Milk, optional
  • Sugar or honey, optional


How to 

  1. Get your water temperature right, then fill your cup or teapot.
  2. Add your tea to the infuser and pop the infuser into the cup or teapot.
  3. Like your tea sweet? Add German Rock Sugar to taste.
  4. Infuse for the recommended time, then remove the infuser. But save your leaves! Most teas can be steeped more than once.
  5. Add milk and sugar or honey, if desired.

T's tips & tricks

Measurements & ratios

The typical ratio is 1 teaspoon per cup for hot tea, or two teaspoons per cup for iced tea. So, a 1 litre teapot will need around 4 teaspoons of tea for a hot brew.

Strength

Like it nice and strong? Instead of brewing for longer, add an extra teaspoon and brew for the recommended time.

To serve

If you’re adding milk to your black tea, brew for the longest recommended time. Remember, save your milk for black teas – most whites, greens and herbals are best served straight up.

Temperature

White, green and oolong teas prefer 80°C/176°F, so just combine 20% cold water with 80% boiling water.
